Hello, I’m Amy and I like drawing outrageous pictures, especially the ones which go in children’s picture books.
Picture books these days are awfully serious. So serious, in fact, that if I was a kid (which in many ways, I am) I’d be pretty hungry for something fun to feast my eyes on. Kids want something juicy and that’s why for every character, scene or interaction I draw, I try to create as much mischief to possible.
My illustrations for The Midnight Adventures of Ruru and Kiwi, commissioned by Penguin Random House New Zealand and written by Clare Scott, won the Storylines Gavin Bishop Award for a previously unpublished illustrator, and were longlisted in the World Illustration Awards 2020.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts and am currently studying towards an MA Illustration at Falmouth University.
Aside from being almost constantly attached to the end of a pencil, I also like to ride on the backs of horses, the wheels of bicycles, and the pages of books.
